LeLF is a registered charity which is affiliated to the National e-Learning Foundation
Our mission is to work with them in ensuring that every schoolchild in our area has access to technology at home and school to succeed in education.
Currently we believe this is best provided through a portable device with a reasonable sized screen and a wireless Internet service. This should be effectively filtered, to block access to harmful material. We also provide other important elements such as software, technical support, training and some insurance.
Our strategy is to focus initially on the 14-16 age range, with the aim of ensuring that every young person in the three-year period running up to their exams has the sort of ICT service we describe above.
We have developed ProjectConnect to help families provide this for their children. In return we ask them to make a voluntary charitable contribution to LeLF. Those who can't afford the target contribution can pledge a lower amount. We hope but do not (indeed cannot) insist that all families will contribute something. LeLF raises money from charitable or governmental sources to meet the funding gap.
We also ask children who participate to pledge to improve their educational attainment and to take an active part in society, through joining a club or other positive organisation.
ProjectConnect is being piloted in Year 9 across three secondary schools in Lambeth.
